About Modern Grove Co.

I’ve said before that every craftsman searches for what’s not there to practice their craft. A builder looks for the rotten hole where the roof caved in. A water carrier picks the empty pot. A carpenter stops at the house with no door. Workers rush toward some hint of emptiness, which they then start to fill. ~ Rumi ~

I have always been a ‘why’ person: “why does that work like that?”, “why do I need to do it that way?”.

This curiosity guided my passions in life - hobby woodworking, home renos, painting and drawing - anything that allowed me to create. I got to a certain point in my graphic design career when I had to ask myself: ‘why am I doing this?’

I decided I would rather try and do something I love and fail than to continue doing something that I didn’t find fulfilling.

Following my most prominent interest and love for natural materials - inspired by my creative late mother, I began to focus on growing my woodworking skills. I learned more about the craftsmanship working with a local furniture maker, and before long I was in my own workshop surrounded by wood, spending hours and hours learning new skills and building new pieces.

In furniture making, there is always something that I can learn, there will always be questions to be answered and there will always be another technique to master.

The feeling I get when I am creating something unique and technical that I know will last a lifetime is something I am driven to reach with every creation, and my love for this craft still grows everyday.

There's something that happens to a space when it’s filled with quality furniture and handmade goods that someone has put so much care into.
